Sports for Change

Sports for Change is a non-profit organization with the noble cause of changing society through sports. With the rallying call sweat for change, sweat for the needy, they regularly organize hiking events, whitewater rafting, biking, and other fun activities. Perhaps the word fun should have been included in their slogan, because this is one constant you’ll not miss in their events. I went for whitewater rafting on Tana River with Sports for Change, and can’t recall the sweating bit.

On the contrary, I had a great fun-filled experience riding the rapids, surfing the fish eye, paddling into a waterfall, and generally frolicking in the water. I’m told their hiking events are just as great.

The proceeds raised from Sports for Change events go to finance the education of economically disadvantaged children, and other worthy causes. One children’s home that has been a beneficiary of Sports for Change is Teule Kenya, based in Loitokitok, at the base of Mt Kilimanjaro. Sports for Change has been paying school fees for several girls living at this home, giving them a shot at a better future.

For more details on their events or how to join them, visit their website, or their Facebook group Sports for Change. Alternatively, you can email Shiku on shiku@sports4change.org.
